I.  Великобритания расположена на Британских островах.Британские острова лежат к западу от Континента (Европы) и состоят их двухбольших островов (Великобритания и Ирландия), и множества маленьких.Великобритания и северная часть Ирландии образуют Соединенное Королевство.Общая площадь Соединенного Королевства составляет 244.000 км2.

Население Великобританиисвыше 56 миллионов человек. Это одна из самых густонаселенных стран в мире.Средняя плотность населения — 230 человек на один квадратный километр, одна изсамых высоких в мире.

Западное побережьеВеликобритании омывается Атлантическим океаном и Ирландским морем. Восточноепобережье омывается водами Северного моря. Пролив Ла-Манш, ширина которого 32километра,  отделяет юго-восток Великобритании от Франции.

В Великобритании многорек, но они не длинные. Река Северн в Уэльсе ирека Шаннон в Ирландии являются самыми длинными.

Остров Великобритания четко разделен на две части:горную (север и запад) и низинную (юг и восток).

На Британских островахмягкий умеренный климат.

В Великобритании естьминеральные богатства. Это уголь, природный газ, нефть, месторождения минеральногосырья и др.

Великобританияпромышленно развитая страна. Глазго и Ньюкасл, оба расположенные на реках,стали огромными центрами машино- и судостроения. В Ланкашире производятхлопчатобумажные товары, в Йоркшире  — шерстяные, в то время как  Шеффилд сосредоточенна железе и стали. Бирмингем и другие города центральной Великобританииразвивают легкое машиностроение.

Великобритания – это парламентаристская  монархия.Это означает, что существует Королева (или Король) и Парламент. Королева почтине имеет власти в стране. Законы издаются Парламентом.

Британский Парламент состоит из двух палат: ПалатыЛордов и Палаты Общин. В Палате Лордов более многочисленна. Места в нейнаследственные.

Палата Общин состоит из 635 членов. Они избираютсяна всеобщих выборах (тайным голосованием).

Правительство возглавляет Премьер – Министр,являющийся лидером партии, которая победила на выборах. 

II.      1. What foreign languagedo you study?

I studyEnglish. I had studied German before I entered the Institute, but now I’mstudying English.

2. last yearall our students built out new Institute. We were building it the whole year. We have built ourInstitute by the end of the year.

3. Usuallythey run this distance well. They run at the stadium at 5 o’clock yesterday. The students have run this distance by 6 o’clock yesterday. They are runningthere tomorrow.

6.  Were is your sister? – She is probably in the library.

V.     1. The work was finished by us.

2. The book was returned to thelibrary by my brother.

3. The boy was told to come back at 6 o’clock by his mother.

4. We were invited by my brined to his birthday party.

5. My report will be classicised by the student on Monday.

VI.   1. Our Institute is situated on a Jacob Kolas`ssquare.

2. The textbooks were given allstudents.

3. Our group was guided to museum.

4. A new building of our institute will be built next year.

5. Our classrooms are cleaned everyday.

VII.  1. While leaving school the pupils were talking about theirmeeting. – Уходя из школы, ученики говорили об ихвстрече.

2. The crying boy stoodbefore a closed door. – Плачущий мальчик стоял возле закрытой двери.

3. After leaving theUniversity he went to work in Norilsk. – После окончания университета онуехал работать  в Норильск.

4. Houses built in our citymade the capital of Byelorussia more beautiful. – Дома, построенные в нашем городе, сделали столицу Белоруссии красивой.

5. A broken glass was on thetable. – Сломанный стакан был на столе.

6. He showed us his article translatedinto English. – Он показал нам свою статью, переведенную наанглийский.

VIII. 1.While reading newspapers he got to know about a new space flight.

2. Yesterday he brought an Englishbook, translated into Russian.

I.       1. Great attention is paid to sport atEnglish schools.

At Englishschools pupils have a lot of physical training lessons. The number of theselessons is not limited by the Ministry ofEducation and depends on director of a school, the teacher’s qualification andequipment of the school.

At thephysical training lessons schoolchildren play different sport games, such asfootball and cricket. At English schools the physical culture is of the best waysof training character.

2. Spot is very popular in Britain.

A lot is sportgames are popular in Great Britain, but the most popular is football. There are 2 rinds of football in Great Britain AssociationFootball and rugby football.

Moreover,hockey is popular both among men and women.

In the moreindividual sports, tennis probably takes 1st place in public favour. Saturday afternoons andSundays many tennis courts of England are occupied by people of any age.

        — Is your flat in a 12 – storeyed building?

        — No, it`s  in a 9 –storeyed one.

        — Do you have allconveniences?

        — Yes, we have all modernconveniences, such as central heating, gas,

        hot ------nning water, telephone.
