Editor's Notes
Ad a) E.g. Newspaper in UK and other UK rooted countries (e.g. Australia) use Editors, sub-editors, revise sub editors, designers and producers in their production process. Even with a lot of stages the quality of the content is not necessarily better in terms of journalistic quality or mistakes (“Too many cooks spoil the broth”). Quality is mainly checked and not generated in the first place. Danger of “I don’t need to care, there is someone later in the chain who will check it anyway” (Lack of “Do it right the first time”) Ad b) late filing of copy by the reporters, peaks before deadlines. High costs ot cover peaks, permanent fire fighting. Ad c) potentials/opportunities of digital media and digital formats (audio, video etc.) not considered in planning, generation and editing. Aspects that could be covered better by digital media are not looked at. Ad d) Lack of understanding about audience segments and audience needs regarding content type, media and user situation Ad e) no integrated news planning in the morning, no integrated commissioning, editing and production. Digital editors need to rely on print copy which was written for print by the reporter (see “storybuilding”)XXX Ad f) digital journalists not recognised as serious journalists by the print journalists. Ad g) Ad-hoc decisions for the day. Everything is perceived and handled as “breaking news”
